Not everyone wants to get up close and personal with their moles and skin spots, but it’s an important step in skin health and skin cancer detection. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer among men and women, after all.
While self-exams are important to detect changes in moles or other skin marks, a board-certified dermatologist can do a detailed spot check on a mole or spot that has changed color, shape or overall look. Additionally, if you have a family history of skin cancer, if you suntan or use tanning beds, you’re at increased risk. It is wise to self-check regularly, and to have a full skin exam at least once a year from a Board-Certified Dermatologist. If you should see any changes in an existing spot or mole, please call us to schedule a consultation with one of our providers.
