Dr. Cerruto is originally from Santa Cruz, Bolivia. After completing his undergraduate and medical school training at the Universidad Mayor de San Andres (UMSA) with honors, he completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He then completed two fellowships in surgical oncology/pathology and dermatopathology at the University of Texas Southwestern medical center, under the mentorship of Dr. Clay Cockerell.
Dr. Cerruto joined Associates in Dermatology in 2014 after practicing dermatopathology exclusively in a busy commercial lab for seven years. He brings a solid foundation of experience and expertise in the diagnosis of cutaneous pathology. Dr. Cerruto is board certified by the American Board of Pathologists and the American Board of Dermatology. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and an active member of the International Society of Dermatopathology, American Society of Dermatopathology, and the Lee County Medical Society. Dr. Cerruto has published many peer-reviewed articles and he has co-authored several book chapters. He is an active speaker at both national and international dermatopathology meetings. His areas of interest include melanoma and soft tissue neoplasms.
Dr. Cerruto enjoys biking, basketball, reading, and spending time with his wife and two children.
